Most often used by mushroom growers to create a high pH (alkaline) water bath for treating agricultural residues (e.g. wheat straw) to avoid the use of heat inputs. This powdered form has a low magnesium content, which is ideal for this purpose.
It is also used in natural dyeing practices to alter colors.
